Ben Mauro — concept artist behind Elysium, Chappie, The Hobbit Trilogy, Halo Infinite, and more — was available to talk with us at FanExpo Canada to discuss various exciting things including his debut graphic novel.

HUXLEY, a post apocalyptic sci-fi universe a decade in the making! Stumbling upon a forgotten treasure map in the form of an ancient sentient robot named HUXLEY, two post-apocalyptic scavengers Max and Kai find themselves amidst a mystery of a galactic scale.

At the end of 2021, as the world was recovering from a close call with its own cataclysm, Ben Mauro was preparing to unleash the dystopian sci-fi epic HUXLEY, which he’d been chiseling away at for the best part of a decade. Lauded as one of the most imaginative new properties to emerge in the comic space for a generation, the kernel of an idea had been crafted into a stellar graphic masterpiece that was the first small step on an ambitious roadmap to and through the cosmos. The next step is here.

The space opera unfolds on a planet ravaged by nuclear war and left desolate, its survival ensured only by the machinations of AIs that keep FURY-7 turning. Centuries after the fortunate escaped the nuclear devastation, two Ronin scavengers, Max and Kai, are deployed to harvest resources from the barren wastelands beyond the city limits. During a routine expedition, they stumble upon Huxley, an ancient atomic robot that could lead them to further riches. But their chance discovery puts Max, Kai and Huxley on a treacherous path that will put them in the sights of the world’s AIs, black-market parts dealers and a relentless cybernetic stalker known as the Demon.
