10358129_524780094327352_8704173332037606433_nWe present our guests with double passes, valid for 2 persons for the special screening of EXCESS FLESH, on Saturday August 1ST, 2015 at the Concordia Hall Theatre (1455 De Maisonneuve Blvd. West) at 11:55 PM.

EXCESS FLESH (Canadian Premiere)

“Brownies. Ice cream. BBQ potato chips. Chili. Sour cream. Butter. Mayonnaise. Sour cream and butter and mayonnaise.” The sound of it would make the entire L.A. fashion scene gag. Roommates Jill and Jennifer are part of it. One is fat, the other is thin. One is a model, the other is not. Coping with unemployment, rejecting people close to her and isolating herself, Jill’s jealousy grows into the obsessive idea of controlling Jennifer’s body. EXCESS FLESH builds its tale on a parallel between these two women, between society’s tyranny of appearance and the lonely broken mind that comes with it. The roommates’ dysfunctional relationship will drive them to the very core of female psychosis, and drag you along with them for a very disturbing ride.

Premiering at SXSW, EXCESS FLESH was immediately noticed as one of “the most messed-up movies” at the festival this year. From a colorful recipe to the toilets flushing vomit endlessly, director Patrick Kennelly’s debut feature delivers a visceral exploration of the female identity. His performance-art background splatters a conceptual storytelling style on a genre-driven film. As Jill, imprisoned in her own apartment as well as her own skin, Bethany Orr delivers a gutsy performance that redefines the very notion of “strong female lead”. Daughter of an alcoholic version of REPULSION‘s Catherine Deneuve, she becomes possessed by Isabelle Adjani’s eyes and slowly descends into madness. This unique indie gem offers an unsettling look into a claustrophobic mental space, and will propel you beyond the edge of sanity. To avoid puking, keep repeating, “It’s only sour cream. It’s only sour cream. It’s only sour cream…”
